According to the Daily Mail, "as many as 100,000 women in Britain have undergone female genital mutilations with medics in the UK offering to carry out the illegal procedure on girls as young as 10, it has been reported.
Investigators from The Sunday Times said they secretly filmed a doctor, dentist and alternative medicine practitioner who were allegedly willing to perform circumcisions or arrange for the operation to be carried out.
The doctor and dentist deny any wrongdoing.
The practice, which involves the surgical removal of external genitalia and in some cases the stitching of the vaginal opening, is illegal in Britain and carries up to a 14 year prison sentence.
It is also against the law to arrange FGM."
Majority of FGMs occur in Africa and Middle Eastern countries where it is seen as vital in preserving chastity.
In Somalia, Sudan and parts of Egypt more than 90 per cent of women are forced to go through with the procedure.
The first type involves the removal of the clitoris. The second type involves the removal of the clitoris and part of the labia - the outer part of the vagina.
This is the most common and account for about 80 per cent of FGMs.
The third type involves the removal of all external genitalia and stitching of the vaginal opening. Scar tissue eventually develops and only a small hole is left open.
The final type is the most severe and often leaves the women with infections and serious emotional scars.
It involves the cutting and sewing of the vagina and at times the introduction of a foreign substance into the vagina.
This mutilation is taking place to girls as young as five - The emotional scars from such a traumatic experience cannot be erradicated.
Female genital mutilation is another major concern that I have wanted to bring an end to. There is a global need to address these human rights violations, not just in Britain. At least the article is written and to raise the awareness for people to know what is happening.
There are women in Africa who are refusing to disfigure their daughters and a lot mor work need to be done to empower women to say NO!
It is alarming that in Britain people are carrying out this and I am sure many get away with it. Stop counting the legal fees Britain, bring an end to these abuses by making sure that there are punishments for such brutality.
Acceptance and apathy of abuses is no longer acceptable whether this comes from anyone in the legal profession or people who are carrying out any human rights abuses towards any people whatsoever.
What has been a tradition for many generations, the consequences today still result out of ignorance. FGM has been used as a way to preserve a young girls virginity and yet is creating other complications with infections too. Once a young girl has been circumcised she has then to go through a procedure to be cut again on her wedding day.
Girls are disfigured for life and yet it is going to take girls and all the women today to raise their voices and say NO MORE!
It only takes one person to start the change. A few years ago when told about this, naturally I was horrified. Not everyone knows that children hold onto memories. If men were to have their testicles chopped off, I am sure they would feel much less than a man!
As one lady from Africa had an argument with her husband who threatened to leave - She told him to GO! She told him if it is a choice between keeping what he wants and their daughter's well being, their daughter's well being comes first. While shouting at him, she said that God made her daughter perfect and told him he has no right to make her inperfect! Did Man decide FGM for girls?
We are born exactly as we are meant to be. As we strive to experience spiritual wholeness, there are women who will always feel incomplete and this is because they have been mutilated.
The following video is graphic and carries a warning to viewers.
Bringing an end to all these abuses will require education and women uniting together in solidarity to educate the men in this world. It takes strength to stand up against decisions of our elders - especially if they are family members. Sometimes we have to do this and sometimes we might make mistakes. I do not beleive that saying NO to female genital mutilation is a mistake.
Women - give girls a big hug instead. Teach your children to save theirselves for someone special. And if a relationship happens before your child is ready it takes two....Men need educating too. Mens minds have been corrupted since they are children.
Most men love their children and especially their daughters. If they thought their daughter was to suffer life long with psychological and emotional scars, this is something that every father must face who is putting their child through this. I beleive our world is in a far better place to implement positive change for everyone. There needs to be an end to inflicting human suffering.
Peace, love and best wishes.
