Michael and Chava 'Unconventional' Orthodox Jewish Wedding
A heartwarming testimony, television interview with Rikki Lake
The video title is: - Ricki Lake Interviews Michoel and Chava about their "Unconventional" Orthodox Jewish Marriage
The Holy Marriage is a Sacred Wedding Ceremony....
People who really hold marriage sacred might appreciate this couple sharing their experience - with the man Michael, showing utmost respect that only he will touch his wife. In keeping this touch they both shared when first bonding with a ring on their marriage betrothal.
Why the index finger....and I wondered about the image that was seen where God held out his hand towards Adam with the index finger also pointing...is there a connection? .
The Sacred Wedding is with God, not excluded from God..
The giver of life has a part in bringing the two people together..
In finding an article this is explaining the procedure and why.
'This finger is chosen because it is said to go directly to the soul, and because it is used as the "pointer" when reading the Torah. The bride usually puts the ring on the left ring after the ceremony. When the bride gives a ring to the bridegroom during the ceremony, she will put it directly on his left ring finger.
Ceremonies always take place under a chuppah.'
Something else is written so that we can understand more
'Brides often circle their bridegrooms three or seven times when they come under the chuppah, from the verse "A woman shall go around a man." (Jeremiah 31:22).
After the bridegroom declares, "Behold, thou art consecrated to me with this ring, according to the law of Moses and Israel," the bride does not respond. Rabbi's will not officiate at the marriage of a Jew and a non-Jew.'
To see if the proposal was accepted, the young man would pour a cup of wine for his beloved and wait to see if she drank it. This cup represents a blood covenant. If she drank the cup she would have accepted the proposal and they would be betrothed. The young man would then give gifts to his beloved, and then take his leave. The young woman would have to wait for him to return and collect her.'
