New York - How Wall Street Came To Be

Last year I was told how Wall Street got its name by a Dutch Lawyer. Because the Dutch immigrants could not afford to defend theirelves, he said they sold the land for 'One Florin' - a symbolic and literal exchange that also is a reminder that while property is built on this land, the land is being kept 'under the protection of God' and we know this, with the dollar writing 'In God We Trust'.

'The New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street is the world's largest stock exchange per total market capitalization of its listed companies.'

To quote Wikipedia and what is written on Wall Street:

"There are varying accounts about how the Dutch-named "de Waal Straat" got its name. A generally accepted version is that the name of the street was derived from an earthen wall on the northern boundary of the New Amsterdam settlement, perhaps to protect against English colonial encroachment or incursions by native Americans. A conflicting explanation is that Wall Street was named after Walloons—possibly a Dutch abbreviation for Walloon being Waal.[14] Among the first settlers that embarked on the ship "Nieu Nederlandt" in 1624 were 30 Walloon families.

In the 1640s, basic picket and plank fences denoted plots and residences in the colony. Later, on behalf of the Dutch West India Company, Peter Stuyvesant, using both African slaves and white colonists, collaborated with the city government in the construction of a more substantial fortification, a strengthened 12-foot (4 m) wall."

'The original city map called the Castello Plan from 1660, showing the wall on the right side' - the meaning of Castello is Castle.

Wikipedia provides some additional insight and facts.

The Holland America Cruise/Shipping company show Holland and America are tied by bonds of trust and integrity that began a long time ago. While in history mistakes have been made and there are people today who live in the knowledge of terrible oppression and exploitation of people, not everyone is of the same mindset. If anything the focus to empower people is a priority today.
