Art of Eternity - The Glory of Byzantium Today

Andrew Graham-Dixon invites the viewer to share his journey of discovery.

'Andrew travels to Istanbul to immerse himself in the tumultuous world of the Byzantine Empire. He decodes the iconography of the art of the period and explains its continuing relevance.'

The art of Byzantium, in the city of Istambul that was to be named Constantinople. Constantinople is headquarters of New Rome. In a time of spiritual awakening people have the opportunity to see old and new. People also have the opportunity to understand there have been reasons for name changes - which has also created confusion. However, truth does not change.

Hagia Sophia, a Cathedral built in 5 yars - . Architects and artists have been divinely inspired to create for a purpose that might not even be apparent in the time. An architect designs and builders build. They are not in conflict.

We have Andrew's 'interpration' on what is clearly for everyone to understand. However, if he had not made this documentary, we might never have been given the opportunity to see and learn more about the buildings with evidence.

Part 1

In Thessaloniki, a monastery dedicated to Saint David, inside the church of Isaiah's David from before 1500 years ago is a 6th century mosaic with a figure holding a scroll, indicating the inspirational Word of God. The reference to the Book of Revelation. Christ is not usually pictured holding a scroll of the Word of God, or depicted clean shaven. This needs reconsideration.

Andrew speaks of the image having been covered over and forgotten about. Then in the 9th century, while a monk was inside the church an earthquake struck and all the covering fell away to reveal the mosaic underneath 'as a result of this divine intervention' - with what he witnessed he died. People have change what God plans for humanity. Then with Muslims being told co ntinually that there is no other messenger of God but Muhammad, evidently God continues to make it very clear this is not the case.

'I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.' Revelation 22:16

Part 2

In this video the most stunning mosaic work to depict scenes in the ancient times. The vibrant colour and detail brings life to these people with tremendous faith. The challenge to uplift people spiritually continues even today.

We have the opportunity to see with our own eyes and understand what there is to know. The Holy icons are representations of the people, they are not the people. They remain as the connection to the people who have become spiritually enlightened and intercessors for prayer. If these are taken away, especially in these times, people would be taken away from knowing the Ruler over this Earth.

Part 3

In part 3 continues. With Christ Pantokrator over the door is the reminder when entering a Church of God that he is the guardian of the doorway and in that sacred space, your sincere prayers are being heard and answered. The Priest explains about the reason for the Holy icons in a way that people might have a clearer understanding or their purpose.

If people turn away from Almighty God being ruler of this earth, they become subject to man's rule. There have been examples throughout history to show that man is not always fair or even consider other people. Queen Elizabeth II is holding the position of being the representative of God on this earth. We know this with her being Supreme Head of the Church of England.

Constantine was crowned Emperor in York England. Today England returns to Holy Byzantium.

Orthodox Christianity pertains to Spiritual Enlightenment.
